Support MLW

Every individual makes a difference!

While our overhead remains low, it is increasingly costly to provide this experience to the wide range of students we serve and traditional revenue sources such as government grants are shrinking.

MLW is a 501 (c) 3 not for profit charitable organization. Your donations are tax-deductible.

We need your help to close the gap! Be a part of the continuing legacy of Uncle Si, Mike Michaelson and countless program directors and staff through the years. You can make a difference with your support and keep MLW strong today and into the future!

Individual Donations

Did you have a life-transforming experience at MLW? Did you as a parent discover something new in your child upon his/her return from MLW? If there were a unique way to thank your team, would you do it? Now you can through our individual donor program.

You can memorialize all of these aspects of the program through a designated gift to MLW recognizing the work of a program, director, staff member, team or any other aspect you would like to acknowledge. Those recognized will be listed on our website and in our quarterly e-newsletter.

Make A Gift

Our current tuition only represents a portion of the costs of running each summer program.  Here are some examples of how your gift makes a difference for MLW delegates:

  • $1,100 –Give a scholarship to cover the full cost of a delegate’s summer program experience
  • $730 –Donate tuition (pay for one delegate to attend a summer program!)
  • $370 –Help pay the difference between the actual cost per delegate and our tuition
  • $100 –Give to our Staff Training Fund (help us cover the costs of training our volunteer team each year)
  • $50 –Cover a delegate back to school costs (subsidize the costs of supplies for a delegate, including our incrediblel guidebook!)
  • Other amount –We welcome a gift of any amount to our general scholarship fund. We put each and every dollar to good use serving our delegates, their families, and our community.

"The week I spent at MLW will forever have an impact on my life. I learned how to become a better leader and a better human being. I was introduced to a number of unique and special people that i will never forget".

Corporate Sponsorship

Staff training, financial support to underwrite outreach programs with partner organizations, and scholarships for deserving students and emerging leaders are all ways that corporations and businesses can contribute to the growth and development of the young people of Maryland.

Foundation Support

Youth leadership development and the successes of our young people in school and in the community is a benefit for all. Many foundations are eager to provide donations that make a meaningful impact for regions of the state that are underrepresented.  One such grant comes from the Mid Shore Community Foundation and has contributed to the geographic diversity of the students in our core programs. This, in turn, benefits all of the participants.

MLW is grateful for support received over the years from the following:

  • Comcast Foundation
  • DuPont
  • Frederick N. and Phyllis H. Leonard Fund of the Mid-Shore Community Foundation
  • Hollingsworth LLP
  • Klompus Family Foundation
  • Leadership Maryland
  • Maryland State Department of Education
  • M&T Bank
  • Northrop Grumman
  • Pepsi Bottling Ventures
  • Taconic Foundation Inc.

Mike Michaelson Endowment

Established by the Policy Board in 2004, the Mike Michaelson Endowment Fund honors the contribution of lifelong educator and MLW Executive Director Emeritus Mike Michaelson. The MMEF secures a future for MLW by creating a fund to support the growth and stability of the organization. The fund achieved tremendous success when it was launched and is a testament to the strong legacy Mike Michaelson continues to embody today.

Mike Michaelson joined MLW (then called MASC Leadership Workshops) in 1965. He directed MLW´s Senior High Workshop from 1969 to 1973. Mike served as MLW´s Executive Director/Operations Coordinator from 1975-1990 and 1996-1999. In all of these positions, Mike invested his time, energy and leadership in developing youth and transforming them into confident, empowered catalysts for positive change. Further, he inspired many young people to pursue careers in public education and continues to be a true mentor and friend.

Perhaps most important, Mike has fostered in countless thousands of youth the confidence necessary to believe in themselves, pursue their dreams and passions, and succeed in every aspect of their lives. Mike´s impact is not only immeasurable but truly invaluable. He continues to stay involved in MASC and MLW.
