We can’t believe the week is halfway over already! Here is what the delegates were up to yesterday…

ALS

After Morning Mindfulness, ALS Delegates headed to a workshop on curiosity. During this workshop, delegates were able to explore what drives their curiosity and creativity and think about issues and questions they are interested in. Following the workshop, delegates spent time in a group meeting to decompress with some team building activities before heading into more work time on their practicum project. During practicum delegates continued to make progress on planning their Health and Wellness fair. We are so excited to see what they come up with and how they pass on their new knowledge to middle school students.  For the evening activity, we were all excited for another MLW favorite tradition – Messy Games Night – but a bad storm came through. So we stayed inside and had a lip sync battle! Delegates ended the night with hall meeting where they decompressed from the day.

Bridge

Following Morning Sing, delegates headed to their first workshop of the day, Intersectional Diversity. In this workshop delegates explored how their own unique identity led to specific lived experiences. Delegates were also able to utilize empathy to better understand others with different identities. Lastly, delegates strategized about how to build inclusive spaces.  After Intersectional Diversity, delegates attended a Self-Love workshop where they reflected on factors that shape their identities, learned about various components of wellness, and discussed self-love and self-care techniques that they can practice.

Following workshops, delegates had more time to work on their practicum project. They are making good progress and we are excited to see their creative ideas come to fruition as they build their time capsule. Delegates also had a group meeting filled with fun games and a tuning session where they continued to work in their small groups with a staff member on their goals for the week. Delegates closed out the evening with a paint night where they were able to exercise their creativity through painting and enjoy snacks and sparkling cider.

Journey

Journey delegates started their morning off with a workshop on Relationships. In this workshop delegates identified relationships in their own lives, discussed communication and feedback styles, discussed what it means to be a good friend, and talked about the concept of consent as it applies to friendships. Delegates learned specific techniques like “I Statements” and “Sandwich feedback” that they can practice upon returning home. Delegates attended their next workshop on Diversity. In this workshop delegates identified different components of identity, assessed strengths/challenges of working in a group, evaluated how privilege impacts groups, and explored the diversity within they Journey group.

Delegates continued to make progress on their community project and we are so inspired by the awards they are designing for women leaders in Howard County. On Thursday, the Journey delegates will present to members of the Women’s Giving Circle and we are so excited to watch them in action. Delegates also had a tuning session. For the evening activity, we were all excited to go outside for Messy Games Night, but a storm came through so delegates played indoor games such as Minute to Win It.
