Our delegates have been so hard at work on their practicum projects and making many new friendships along the way. Here’s what happened yesterday:
ALS:
Delegates participated in their final workshop of the week entitled “Power Dynamics” with Remi and Olivia. In this workshop, delegates were challenged to think about the way in which power operates within society and their own personal thoughts and feelings about power. Delegates also learned about the rights students have and participated in simulated activities to better understand power and privilege.
In the afternoon, delegates finalized their plans for the MLW Staff Training they will be conducting tomorrow afternoon. Our staff is so excited to learn from the ALS delegates! In the evening, delegates participated in “Arts and Crafts Night” with a series of art challenges and activities. There was even a toilet paper fashion show!
Bridge:
Delegates participated in a two-part workshop entitled “Influencers” with Emily and Kori. In this workshop, delegates discussed the concepts on leadership, power, persuasion, and authority. Delegates examined who in their own lives they can influence and learned strategies to effectively influence other people. Delegates also discussed advocacy and activism and the important role influence plays in creating a positive community impact.
After some more time spent working on their practicum project, delegates spent time bonding with one another by participating in different group games and team building activities. The night was wrapped up with a fun lip sync battle!
Journey:
Journey delegates started the morning off with their “Fear, Failure, and Fire” workshop with Marcy Leonard, Community Superintendent of Howard County Public Schools. In this workshop, delegates analyzed sources of fear, learned strategies to engage in a growth mindset, discussed grit and perseverance, and practiced techniques for developing resilience.
In the evening, the Journey delegates were joined by members from the Howard County Women’s Giving circle and presented their progress on their practicum project. Everyone was impressed by the progress the girls have made in planning their Tea and Awards program. The Journey delegates had dinner with the Howard County Women’s Giving Circle and then got ready for a Journey favorite: The Falents Shows. The Falents Show is a Fashion Show combined with a Talent Show. We were amazed by the creativity and talent of the Journey delegates!
